Learn more about calvados

Calvados is a delicious apple brandy, and here at we have a selection available online.

This apple brandy can only be produced in restricted areas of North West France in the region of Normandy. Distilled from cider made from specially grown and selected apples, of which there are over 200 named varieties. The brandy requires two years of ageing in oak casts before it can be sold. The longer it is aged, the smoother the drink becomes.

In Normandy it’s traditionally served as a digestif during (yes, during) the meal. It’s good in cocktails and makes an excellent mulled cider mixed with apple juice, cider, cinnamon, cloves and brown sugar.

Ranges from very sweet apples, to tart to bitter, at various proportions. The fruit is harvested usually by hand from mid-October into December and pressed into a juice that is subsequently fermented into a dry cider.
