Created by the Barbieri brothers, Aperol was launched in 1919 at the Padua International Fair, and was an instant success in Italy.
Made from a blend of fruits, herbs and spices, including bitter orange, gentian, rhubarb, and cinchona, this Italian aperitif really came into itself after World War II. Similar to Capari, Aperol has a lower ABV with a less bitter presence.
TOGETHERSINCE 1919
The story of Italy’s favourite cocktails begins over 100 years ago, when the Barbieri Brothers unveiled a new aperitivo at the Padua International Fair 1919.
Inspired by the drinks they’d enjoyed in France, they named it Aperol, from the French word for aperitivo, ‘apero’.
With its iconic orange hue and unique, refreshing flavour, the Aperol Spritz quickly became the drink of choice for groups of friends gathering tighter in the early evening.

WHAT IS APERITIVO?
From humble beginnings across Northern Italy, the Aperitivo moment is now a worldwide pastime. It’s that moment in the day, between 5pm and 8pm, when the sun goes down and our glasses go up, as we toast the start of an evening together.
The Aperol Spritz sits at the heart of this moment.
