Marsala Wine originated in Sicily in 1772 as an inexpensive substitute for sherry and port. The fortified version is blended with brandy to make ‘Fine’ (a younger and weaker type, usually only aged for four months) and ‘Superiore’ which ages for around two years.
Fact: Marsala wine is usually used more in cooking than for drinking purposes.
