Traditionally, Mead Wine is produced through the fermentation of honey and water. However, there are different types. For example, it can be flavoured with herbs and spices like Vermouth, which is called 'metheglin'. It can also be flavored with fruit and this is called 'melomel'. It has an alcohol content of between 8-18% and can be sparkling or carbonated, dry or sweet.
The name mead is derived from the Old English meodu which means a fermented honey drink.
