Who the Hell is Tommy?

The Story Behind Tommys Margarita

The Story Behind Tommy’s Margarita (and Why It Might Be Better Than the Classic)

Every year on National Margarita Day (22nd February), the world raises a glass to one of the most iconic cocktails ever created. But this year, we’re asking a different question: Who the hell is Tommy?
Because somewhere between salt rims and triple sec, a quiet cocktail revolution happened... and his name was T  O  M  M  Y.

First Things First: When Did National Margarita Day Start?

National Margarita Day is celebrated every year on February 22nd.

While the Margarita itself dates back to the 1930s-40s (depending on which legend you believe), National Margarita Day as a celebration gained popularity in the early 2000s, largely driven by US bars and tequila brands embracing themed cocktail days.

Today, it's a global excuse to drink tequila with purpose. And while most people default to the classic...

The cocktail world has evolved.

Enter: T  O  M  M  Y

Why Bartenders Love Tommy’s

Tommy’s Margarita isn’t about being flashy. It’s about respecting the tequila. As premium tequilas became more appreciated (especially 100% agave expressions), the cocktail world shifted toward cleaner builds that let the spirit shine. Tommy’s became the industry favourite. And now? It’s arguably the bartender’s Margarita.

Classic Margarita vs Tommy’s Margarita

What’s the Difference?

Classic Margarita

Ingredients:

50ml tequila
25ml triple sec
25ml fresh lime juice

Method:
Shake with ice. Strain into a salt-rimmed rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with lime.

Tommy’s Margarita

Ingredients:

60ml 100% agave tequila
30ml fresh lime juice
15ml agave syrup

Method:
Shake hard with ice. Strain over fresh ice. No salt rim needed (unless you insist). The agave syrup mirrors the tequila’s base ingredient - which is why it feels so balanced.

So… Which One Should You Make This National Margarita Day?

If you love citrusy brightness and that nostalgic salt rim → go Classic.
If you want something smoother, slightly richer and more refined → go Tommy’s.
Or do what we suggest. Make both. Compare. Decide who wins.

Final question

Now that you know who Tommy is… Which side are you on? Team Classic or Team Tommy? This National Margarita Day, shake things differently.
