Throughout the ages there has been numerous reports about the brilliance of Cyprus wines. There was always a special bond between the Cyprus vineyard and their wines, however it all came under threat with the various times the island was invaded and the wines making lost its way.
Keo made it their mission in the 80’s aiming to recover, preserve and discover the indigenous Cyprus varieties that were mentioned in old text back in the Middle Ages. Keo found and has re-planted the indigenous grape varieties. They named this the Mallia project and it saw them, buying enough land to plant old and new grapes from Cyprus and around the world. They also travelled around Europe to study foreign cultivation to enhance their wine growing project.
Keo refurbished the Mallia winery where it grows some of the rarest and most popular grapes know. This building is not used only for making wine but it is also a research centre to discover new ways of making wines and what different combination of grapes suit each other. When they released these new and old wines to the global market they have already been a commercial success.
