Cockburns Fine Tawny port is a blend of fine young wines from various harvests that are aged for approximately three years in small wood barrels. They use small barrels in order to hasten the ageing process; this allows the wine to evolve into a red amber colour that acquires a silky feel and nutty flavour. Much like the 'Fine Ruby', the 'Tawny' is filtered before bottling, but the Tawny is a smoother and mellower drink to its counterpart.
The Cockburn’s Fine Tawny is made from a lighter skinned grape found in the Lower Douro region that is perfectly suited for tawny wine. While the tawny is maturing in wood, it loses some of its colour and rich texture but instead it acquires a classic nutty/butterscotch flavour. This port pairs well with rich creamy desserts or serve with almonds and pecans.
