In 1967 the Casellas family settled in on a vineyard in Australia near Griffith. 1969 the Casellas produce their first batch of wine. In 1975 the wine is a hit and they are ready to expand, installing stainless steel tanks and a 12 tone fermenter. 2001-2005 a brand is born, they gain a contract with W.J Deutsch & Sons to start importing wines into the states. In their first year they aimed to sell 25,000 bottles but instead ended up selling 1,000,000, the brand was born. In 2005 the global sales of yellow tail reached 5 million cases, and the launch of yellow tails older brother, yellow tail reserve, which sold 250,000 cases in its first year. 2004 saw yellow tail gain two of the highest awards in the Australian wine show calendar for one year old reds, the Jimmy Watson and Stodart Trophy. It was also the year that yellow tail began an outboard billboard campaign in America. 2005 saw 250,000 cases of Yellow tail being exported to Japan and Casellas wines being inducted into the Export hall of fame for its on going contribution to yellow tail. Yellow tail was in high demand and to deal with the demand they needed to increase production, therefore they installed the fastest bottling system in the world, being able to bottle 36,000 bottles of wine an hour. Concerned about wastage, Casellas installed the largest recycling plant for rain and waste in Australia. In 2008 yellow tail hit the streets of the U.K by painting the traditional red telephone boxes yellow, with yellow tail advertised on the top of the phone box, naming it the ‘Hello’ campaign. Also in 2008 the global sales of yellow tail surpass 10 million cases creating a global community of yellow tail lovers. In 2009, yellow tail was name Australian most powerful family owned wine brand two years running. In 2011 it was yellow tail’s 10 birthday celebrating Australia’s best wine exporter, delivering to over 50 countries worldwide.
