Smiling Donkey Douro D.O.C. Red Wine 75cl

After decades of neglect and misunderstanding, the fate of the donkey is threatened, depending on subsidies of the European Union to survive. As young people continue to leave rural areas and move to cities, the donkeys are being threatened also because the farmers who care for them are getting too old to continue doing so. The large and smiling Mirandese donkey has been considered a threatened species since 2003.

This wine is expertly blended using Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga National and Tinta Barroca grapes, harvested from the Douro D.O.C. region in Portugal. The Douro one of the oldest regions in the history of wine, dating back more than 250 years.

 Carefully selected grapes are fermented in stainless steel. A portion of the wine is allowed to mature for 9 months in French oak barrels.
