Pernod

Pernod are the French producers of Absinthe and Pastis.

Originating in Switzerland, Henri-Louis Pernod opened his first distillery in 1797. In 1805, Maison Pernod-Fils was founded in Pontarlier, Franche-Comté in eastern France by Henri-Louis Pernod, a French distiller of Francophone Swiss origin, and started the production of the anise-flavored liquor known as absinthe. Until the production and consumption of absinthe was banned in France in 1915, Pernod produced his absinthe and sold it to the masses.

Pernod Pastis was launched in 1951, an aniseed based drink which goes cloudy when mixed with water or lemonade, and it soon became a populr choice worldwide.

Pernod and Ricard were old rivals, until 1975, when they merged to form the Pernod Ricard Group. Today,Pernod Ricard are one of the most recgonised producers worldwide.
