Cockspur Rum

Cockspur rum was the brainchild of a Danish seaman,Valdemar Hanschell  who settled in Barbados, one of the Caribbeans biggest ports at the time, to establish a chandlery, providing ships with food and other provisions which included rum.

Established in 1884, Valdemar Hanschell enlisted the help of the Stade brothers, who ran The West Indies Rum Distillery. The Stade brothers shared Hanschell's vision and passion to produce flavourful Caribbean rums, free from the impurities that were commonly found in the rums being made at that time. The Brothers improved the rum-making process and mastered the complexities of the fermentation process by introducing the first continuous column still to Barbados. The revolitionary stills allowed the Satde brothers to produce a crisp, dry and "clean" rum, which the world has come to know and love as Cockspur.
