Ever wondered how red wine includes no additives, yet has the most rich and beautiful colouring? Red wines depend on the fermentation of dark coloured grape varieties. The colour however, can range from brick red to intense violet. Much of the red-wine production process therefore involves extraction of colour and flavour components from the grape. Having said this, it is the grape-skins that are responsible for the red wine's distinct colour spectrum.

For a perfect drinking experience, red wines should be poured through a decanter in order to allow the wine to warm up and the wine's aromas to open up. The flavour profile will soften and mellow out a bit and the overall flavour characteristics should improve.
