More Information
The majority of fruit for this wine (Cabernet Sauvignon 46%, Malbec 25%) was sourced from the Justin Vineyard in the Frankland River area of the Great Southern growing region.
Southern Australia in spring 2006 meant the vines were in excellent health in the lead up to harvest. The warm and dry weather of summer extended throughout the ripening and harvest period, resulting in fruit of excellent condition and flavour.
Winemaking: Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec from Frankland River, were harvested at optimum flavour ripeness. The separate parcels were fermented in static fermenters, with careful management to attain excellent colour and tannin extraction. The wines were pressed and transferred to Bordeaux-coopered French oak for maturation over eighteen months. Following maturation, the wine was blended and fined with a small amount of egg white.
Tasting Notes:
Bright and luminous, inky red with a scarlet hue. The intense and brooding aromas display characters of mulberry, black cherry and cassis combined with tobacco leaf, cigar box and cinnamon oak notes.
The concentrated palate shows vibrant red berry and raspberry fruits with flavours of dark chocolate and coffee. Fine tannins lend a rich velvety structure and provide the wine with great length and density.
