English Harbour rum is made in Antigua at the Antigua Distillery Ltd. This distillery was formed back in 1932, where a number of shop owners, who sold their own home made rum, got together to form one company to supply the country with rum. In the early days they made two different types of rums and wanted to expand so they bought a local sugar factory and started to produce their own Molasses. This is the same sugar that they use to make English Harbour Rum.
The reason for its success is simply down to the taste. It is distilled in copper stills and aged in small 220 litre charred oak barrels to give it a uniquely silky and mellow flavour.
English Harbour rum is considered to be one of the finest blends of light and dark rums in the world. Being ranked in Forbes magazines top 10 rums in the worlds and winning double gold for a second consecutive time at the 2005 San Francisco International Spirit championship by a panel of judges who were blindfolded and sampled 589 different rums and named English harbour rum one of the world’s best rums.
