Bourbon whiskey is synonymous with North America, and is produced to a strict set of rules. In a nutshell, Bourbon must consist of at least 51% corn (maize), the other cereals can be any grain such as wheat, barley, or rye. Bourbon must also be matured in charred virgin Oak casks and finally bottled at 40% alcohol content(80 proof) or more. All this ensures great consistency in flavour whilst maintaining a high standard.

The name "Bourbon" can be traced back to the 1820s and became consistent in Kentucky from the 1870s.
