More Information
Angostura Bitters is recognised as the world leader in aromatic bitters. Created by Dr Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert, who was surgeon General in Simon Bolivar’s army in Venezuela, it was originally created as a medicine but due to its richness and complexity that adds a great extra dimension to a drink, it has continued to be seen in the kitchen of almost everyone who enjoys experimenting with food and drink.
It has kept with the same recipe since 1824 and remains the quintessential ingredient for classic and contemporary cocktails. A variety of different herbs and spices go into creating a bottle of Angostura bitters, and since its creation to this day, those ingredients and the recipe have been kept a secret. Although it is bottled at 44.7% ABV, you only use little drops per drink or dish making it virtually alcohol free, in some countries it is even seen as a food ingredient.
