3 Star ???? Are you sure you were drunk Metaxa Kassandra ?. There is no such thing even if you go on Metaxa's web site it isn't there. I've had all of the Metaxa range from Golden age and Grand Olympian reserve right through up to AEN which is an 80 star and I've had 40 year old Grand Olympian reserve and grand fine and the 40 year old but in all my Metaxa hunting and drinking I've never ever come across a 3 star or 3 year old and in my exsperiance you only get good Metaxa and better Metaxa !. They all have there own characteristics and the younger the age the livelier they are but if you are using the illusive 3 star to clean paint brushes with then what were you drinking if it doesn't exist ? Turpentine ?
There are 3 ratings available in Greece itself.
7*, 5* & 3*. There are 'other' higher priced varieties, which are, (of course) more expensive!
OK. Having lived and worked in Greece for many years (now retired, and back in UK) IMVHO, the following: 7* - too refined, anything higher will not be REAL metaxa! 3* - use to clean your paint brushes! FIVE STAR - the Dog's testes! What the Greeks drink! A satisfying taste with a wonderful aroma, best over ice. IF you don't like it, I'll buy you a 7*! Caution! 3 'home' measures are adequate! Enjoy!
