On the eye the Dalwhinnie 25 year old is light and golden amber in colour. The nose opens with a waxy honeycomb offset by fresh, gentle tart fruit notes but then reveals its aromatic complexity. As with all Dalwhinnies the trademark honeycomb dominated the nose with heather and cream soda enhancing the honey sent.
On the palate it has a medium body, with sweet, waxy and honeycomb flavours dominating with a bit a spice. Adding water keeps the texture smooth with the sweetness of the whisky being less apparent which is followed by a dry herbal freshness.
The finish is rounded and medium to long. Warming and distinct, the oak spiciness in the aftertaste leaving your taste buds lingering. Adding a drop of water gives you a softer, shorter and less obvious spicy flavour with a touch of clove to finish it off.
