Tequila Supremo, the producers of Maracame tequila, is wholly owned and run by La familia Camarena of Arandas, Jalisco. Founded in 1938 by Agustin Camarena, who built the company based on a single dream; to produce the finest tequila from the agave growing in the highlands of Jalisco itself, and share it with the people of the world.
The Camarena’s family heritage in Tequila began more than 250 years ago. Their Spanish ancestors immigrated to Mexico in the early 18th Century and co-founded the town of Arandas in 1761. Long considered the epicenter of artisanal highlands Tequila production, Arandas is home to their family-owned Tequila distillery. In 1970, Doña Elena Camarena, daughter-in-law of Don Agustín, assumed control and ownership of Casa Casco Viejo and the mother company, Tequila Supremo.
Named after the anicent Huichol wizard, the Maracame is more than just a medicine man, he is also a spiritual guide, confidante of his village and a supernatural, who helps keep his lands watered and crops growing by working with the gods. To pay tribute, Maracame tequila is the prized tequila produced by Tequila Supremo, and they felt that this was the greatest honour they could bestow.Read More
