Every year on Ardbeg day the distillery Ardbeg releases a special edition whisky to commemorate the day. Although this whisky was released in a World Cup year the name and style have nothing to do with this, as the creator Dr Bill Lumsden wanted to create a whisky like a basket of soft fruits hence the green and gold. This whisky is much softer than the popular Alligator, indeed it is softer than many of Ardbeg's whiskies.
Ardbeg is situated on the southern edge of Islay in the Inner Hebrides, it has been producing whisky since 1798 though production was halted in 1981. Ardbeg resumed prodcution in 1998 after being bought by Glenmorangie who changed its focus from producing whisky for blends to producing its own unique single malts. Ardbeg is known for being very peaty in taste and has won numerous medals since it resumed production including a number of best whisky awards.
